Definition of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD):
A UN agency that seeks to raise additional funding for agriculture and rural development in developing countries that directly benefit the poorest rural population. It started its activities in 1977.
The International Organization was founded in 1977 after the 1974 World Food Conference. IFAD is a special UN agency. It provides agricultural development and financing to meet the needs of the poor in developing third world countries and increase food production and education.
